The AI-Readiness Index

You cannot AI your way out of a mess you do not understand

An agent grounded in clean metadata is powerful. An agent grounded in ten years of undocumented Flows inherits every bit of that tangle, and now acts on it. Score your org on the eight things that decide which one you get.

Eight dimensions, 0 to 5 each

0 means nobody knows. 2 means it is known and unmanaged. 4 means documented and controlled. 5 means clean. Score honestly; the number is only useful if it is.

  1. Overlapping Flows, and the Process Builders and Workflow Rules still running underneath them with no rule about which wins.

  2. What breaks if you change one field. Hardcoded IDs, and integrations nobody wants to touch.

  3. Undocumented logic, tribal knowledge, and what happens the week the person who built it leaves.

  4. View All and Modify All sprawl, and profiles nobody has audited since they were cloned.

  5. Unused fields, obsolete classes, and components still pinned to a retiring API version.

  6. Duplicates, half-filled records, and free text that no model can reason over reliably.

  7. Real test coverage, a rollback that has been rehearsed, and sandbox discipline.

  8. The honest one: is the metadata clean enough for an agent to be grounded in good data?

A high score does not mean the org is impressive

It means the org is legible — to a new admin, to your future self, and now to an agent grounded in your metadata. Technical debt used to be a slow tax you could defer. Agents turned it into an invoice, because they work badly on top of a mess and they do it loudly.

  • Do not try to fix all eight. Take your two lowest and start there.
  • It is usually automation sprawl and documentation, because those two compound into everything else: undocumented overlapping automation is what makes dependency risk unknowable and change unsafe.
  • Use the Index freely, with attribution. It is published so it can be argued with.
